The Great Smoky Mountains

The Great Smoky Mountains
We left Bryson City and drove to The Great Smoky Mountains which straddle the borders of North Carolina and Tennessee. Its the most visited National Park in the USA. We weren't blessed with the best of weather today with frequent outbursts of rain which did make the mountains 'smoke' in the humidity.

We decided to bed down for the night in a motel on the river in a little town called Cherokee. It's a real tacky little place where you can pan for gold, play themed mini-golf and browse the numerous souvenir shops. Sadly enough we opted for the latter but you can have hours of fun staring in disbelief at the crap they sell and how much they charge for it. Vanessa was in tears when I showed her the nut scratcher made from beaver!!

Snacks were in order after the fun in the souvenir shop. We decided against the rats cheese and opted for the boiled peanuts instead. Ventured out to eat in the evening for our first proper size portion of American hospitality at Paul's Restaurant with burger and fries and a side of ''awesome'', ''at this time'' and ''you're welcome''. Love it.
