Blue Ridge Parkway

We left the lovely little motel in Cherokee and began our drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway at its southernmost point. This is a classic American scenic highway running for 469 miles through the mountains with amazing views on all sides. The only problem was the low cloud which for most of the time we were driving in. Occasionly it cleared giving us some very eerie but spectacular views instead.

A short diversion from the Parkway is Mount Pisgah where there's a 60ft natural sliding rock down a waterfall. The mist cleared but it was now raining and less than 70F but even so, we expected more than us two idiots when we arrived. Being British we had to do it whatever the weather so we stripped off and flung ourselves down.

After drying off in the car we continued our journey and checked into a motel in Asheville, the largest town along the Parkway with a really lively atmosphere and loads of cool bars and cafes. We liked the look of the Mellow Mushroom where we tucked into a cajun shrimp and a spiked sausage hoagie whilst nursing a throbbing tailbone after the earlier events.
