From mountains to coast

Final shot on the Blue Ridge Parkway, classic American scene
We left or motel in Boone and drove a few miles to the lovely little town of Blowing Rock for a stroll around and a coffee, pronounced kwaffee. Unable to drag ourselves away from the stunning Blue Ridge Parkway we felt the urge to drive about another 30 miles of it just to soak up more of the views and the cool mountain air. Finally we started our journey east towards the coast and immediately the temperature increased from the late 60's to early 90's. As we have plenty of time we decided against doing the long drive in one hit so we stopped off at the university town of Durham for the night. This was slightly forced upon when we hit a heavy thunderstorm so we abandoned driving and bedded down for the night but not before treating ourselves by dining out at a typical American Steakhouse where we ordered a nice salad and a glass of water, pronounced wadder. We can get away with ordering this as our accent is going down a treat due to the ‘Deep South’ American accent being so strong. The room was more than we budgeted for so we made the most of the complimentary breakfast buffet by stealing enough fruit, cereal, Philadephia and kwaffee to last another couple of days! Our leisurely drive east took about five hours when we finally reached The Outer Banks on the east coast of North Carolina, a one hundred mile long sandbar with the dramatic Atlantic coast on one side and the sheltered Currituck Sound on the other. A little place called Kill Devil Hills will be our home for a couple of days whilst we explore the area.
